Heather Albright’s journey with FamiliesFirst Network began with her passion for working with children. As a preschool teacher, she frequently noticed that students who displayed challenging behaviors often came from difficult home environments and had adverse childhood experiences. “I always wanted to be a teacher,” she explained, “but I realized I wanted to help kids differently.”

Motivated by her desire to help children through challenges, Heather pursued a career in social work and discovered that FamiliesFirst Network had entry-level positions available that did not require a four-year degree. She joined FamiliesFirst Network as a placement worker, gaining valuable hands-on experience in supporting children during the critical transition between removal and case management. “It showed me everything,” Heather reflected. “I had one-on-one time with the children, and I learned how to effectively communicate with foster parents, case managers and more.”
Now, eight-and-a-half years later, Heather serves as a unit manager in Santa Rosa County’s non-judicial division. Her role centers on supervising her team, guiding them through complex cases, and supporting their professional development. “My job is a lot of consulting and supervision,” she explained. “I had a brand-new unit last year, and now they’re gaining confidence and really growing into their roles.”
Heather’s leadership is rooted in empathy and lived experience. Having started at the entry level herself, she understands the challenges her team faces. “Even my first year as a supervisor, I was still acting as a case manager,” she said. “It’s still fresh for me. I know the long nights are hard, but they ebb and flow. We’ll get through it.”
Her commitment to growth extends beyond her team. Heather recently completed her master’s coursework and is passionate about mentoring early-career professionals. “I love pouring into people,” she said. “One day, I could see myself in a training role. I want to spread positivity and knowledge.”
Heather’s journey reflects her unwavering commitment to serving others and her ability to lead with purpose and compassion. “If this is the field you want to be in,” she said, “there’s a place for you. We’ll build you up.”
