Judy Sands’ journey at FamiliesFirst Network is a testament to her dedication and a lifelong passion for service. Growing up in a close-knit community, she always felt drawn to helping others. Initially, she pursued a career in early childhood education, earning an Associate of Arts degree and a Child Development Associate credential. However, after gaining hands-on experience, she realized her true calling was in administration and community work.

After working for the federal government in a student program, Judy transitioned into the nonprofit sector, in Pensacola. Her interest in supporting families and children led her to Lakeview Center in 2002 as a case manager with the Welfare to Workforce Program with the SVS program where she guided parents through their appointments and ensured they stayed on track.

Judy was later invited to apply for an executive assistant role as FamiliesFirst Network was first forming. However, Judy’s passion for working directly with families led her to choose a family support worker position instead. In this role, she built strong relationships with parents, provided crucial resources and played an essential part in keeping families connected.

Over time, Judy transitioned into administration, handling billing, payroll, tracking proposals and grants. In 2006, she moved into a secretarial role, where she remained until 2021, before stepping into her current position as an executive assistant for FamiliesFirst Network Case Management in Escambia County. Her role is vast, including managing the service center, coordinating logistics, training new executive assistants and serving on the Health and Safety Committee for LifeView Group.

Her dedication extends beyond the workplace. She has a deep appreciation for teamwork, mentorship, and the relationships she has built over the years. She acknowledges the emotional toll of working in child welfare but remains committed to the mission. When asked how she stays positive, she says, “Have a few good friends that encourage you. Working in child welfare, there are some days we vent and cry, and others we encourage each other. I have seen the ups and downs, good and bad—it’s an emotional rollercoaster at times. And yet, I’m still here because I want to help. This is where my heart is.”

As she looks to the future, Judy’s goal is simple yet profound: to one day retire knowing she gave her best to the agency, her team members and the clients she has served. Guided by the wisdom of her grandmother, she carries the belief that work should always be done with a spirit of excellence. Her career is a shining example of dedication, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
