Scott is known throughout FamiliesFirst Network for always showing up fully, consistently and with a smile. His steady dedication to children, families and colleagues is a key reason why he was selected as the 2025 Team Member of the Year. Those who work with him describe him as the person you can count on in any situation: calm, positive, dependable and deeply caring.

Since joining FamiliesFirst Network in 2016, Scott has served as a specialized child welfare case manager, supporting children placed in Florida from other states and circuits. His role requires navigating complex interstate processes and providing detailed oversight in areas such as psychotropic medication management. This work demands precision, advocacy and close collaboration with providers and case management teams.
Scott approaches every part of it with intention and heart. “I love working with the children,” he shares. “Hearing about their day or doing show‑and‑tell with them never gets old.”
Child welfare work can be unpredictable and emotionally demanding, yet Scott is known for maintaining a remarkably positive attitude. He jokes that his secret is starting the day with “a cup of coffee and some killer tunes,” but the truth is his optimism comes from a genuine desire to make life easier for others. His team often turns to him during challenging moments because he responds with patience, steadiness and compassion. Whether supervising last‑minute visitations, stepping into crisis situations or taking on long‑distance transports, Scott doesn’t hesitate—he simply shows up.
One story in particular reflects the depth of his character. When a placement for two girls from Georgia began to break down, Scott became worried for their safety. He advocated persistently, coordinated with multiple parties and ultimately ensured the girls were cared for until they could safely transition home. He drove them to school, purchased clothes, washed laundry, ensured meals were taken care of and provided steady support throughout the week. To Scott, ensuring a child feels safe and cared for is the priority, no matter the challenge.
Passion that extends into the community
Scott’s commitment to service extends far beyond his workday. He volunteers with the Miracle League, supporting children with special needs in enjoying the fun and connection of softball games. He also gives his time to PAWS, walking shelter dogs and helping them get the exercise and affection they need. Additionally, he volunteers with the Search and Rescue Task Force, assisting with training and care for working dogs. These efforts are simply expressions of who he is.
His leader, Angie Alberda – who nominated him for this award – describes him as someone who makes everyone better. He treats each caregiver, child, family member and coworker with respect, empathy and patience. “I always had someone advocating for me growing up,” Scott says. “I want to be that person for others.” He naturally embodies the FamiliesFirst Network value of “never settle.”
When Scott learned he had been chosen as Team Member of the Year, he was genuinely surprised. His team, however, was not. To them, Scott represents the very best of their mission: a steady, compassionate presence who quietly improves lives by doing what is right, even when it’s difficult or unseen.
Scott’s dedication, humility and heart are why he was chosen as Team Member of the Year.
