In 2007, Autumn Cherry started at FamiliesFirst Network, her first professional role after earning her degree in social work. At the time, she didn’t realize she was stepping into a calling that would shape her personally and professionally.
Nearly two decades later, Autumn serves as team manager of quality, fidelity and practice improvements, guiding the system that supports children and families across Northwest Florida. Her leadership journey demonstrates how our culture empowers team members to grow, lead and make a lasting impact.
Mission moment
Autumn first joined FamiliesFirst Network (FFN) as a family services counselor, now known as a child welfare case manager. She had grown up in Pensacola, aware of the organization’s strong reputation in the community.
“Once I started here, I realized it was the place I wanted to stay,” she recalls. “I really enjoy seeing the complexity of the puzzles we work with, helping people navigate challenging times and make changes that impact generations.”
Her early experiences helping children find safety and permanency solidified her passion. One case in particular has stayed with her — a young girl who found a stable adoptive home with relatives. Years later, the family reached back out and invited Autumn to lunch.

“She told me she couldn’t remember what I looked like, but she remembered I made her feel safe,” Autumn says. “That’s why we do this work.”
Expanding impact through quality leadership
After several years in case management, Autumn transitioned into a supervisor role, then into FFN’s quality team.
“Moving to quality allowed me to help the helpers — supporting the entire system of care,” she explains. “I can indirectly help more families by supporting case managers and improving our practices.”
Today, Autumn oversees critical functions including:
- Performance reviews and audits
- Quality assurance
- Technical assistance for complex cases
- System improvements and contract support
- Specialized expertise in domestic violence (Safe & Together model)
She routinely collaborates with attorneys, child protection teams, Guardians ad litem and case management. She has also embraced opportunities to expand her skills across the organization.
“Public speaking, grant writing, contributing to business development and system-wide planning — those aren’t things I ever expected to do,” Autumn says with a laugh. “But through FFN, I’ve had the chance to grow in ways I never imagined.”
“Autumn is an invaluable member of the FFN team,” says Beverly Orezzoli, a fellow FFN leader. “She consistently takes on numerous projects with dedication. Her wealth of knowledge is fundamental to supporting and growing our team.”
Autumn’s role often brings her into the most challenging moments within the system of care. Beverly described how powerful Autumn’s presence is during these times.
“During challenging times, Autumn has been a source of support for her peers — consistently checking in and offering encouragement,” Beverly shares. “She wears many hats and advocates for team members, ensuring they are acknowledged for their hard work.”
Grounded in purpose, at work and at home
As a mother of three adopted children, all welcomed into her family at birth, Autumn says her personal life deepens her empathy for the families she supports and the challenges they face.
“My work informs my personal life, but my personal life gives me compassion for families dealing with challenges they didn’t anticipate,” she explains.
In a field as challenging as child protective services, Autumn credits her faith for helping her stay positive.
“A lot of times the only difference between my life and the families we serve is the opportunities I’ve had,” she says. “Remembering that brings compassion. It keeps me grounded.”
Culture of belonging
When asked about her team, Autumn lights up.
“FFN is my team — they’re my people,” she says warmly. “We work really well together.”
Her career reflects how one person, driven by purpose, can uplift an entire system of care. For Autumn, there’s no question: “I feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be.”
Team members like Autumn do inspiring work every day, supporting parents and children in need. But we can’t do this alone.
